Over the Hill Party
An Over the Hill Party can be held most anywhere; a lodge building, fire house or other community banquet room. Turn any of these places into a hospital, funeral parlor, or just make it dark and gloomy.  Have your honoree arrive in an ambulance then escort them to their hospital bed or wheelchair. Staff should dress as doctors, nurses and other patients in bathrobes.

Ideas for inspiration:
Aging, muumuu's, wigs, curlers, hairnets, rain bonnets, slippers, sweater vests, bow ties and hats, senior citizen, associations serving seniors, hospital, wheelchair, walking stick, bifocal, dentures, hearing aids, doctor, nurse, patient, anything that has to do with getting old and failing health.

Invitations:
Make invitations that look like doctor's diagnosis of patient's condition, and have a doctor or nurse deliver them with their regrets for the bad news.

Set-up & Decorate:
The place should sound like a hospital, by playing soothing music and the occasional doctor calls over the PA; Dr Pepper, paging Dr Pepper, you are needed in the cafeteria. It should also smell like it, you know, that sterile smell hospitals have. Have a registration desk where guests are greeted and given instructions for treatment of their loved one. Place paper on the tables in place of a tablecloth and place crayons and markers in containers, so guests can decorate their table. Balloons imprinted with your local hospital's name. Healthcare items should be abundant: adult diapers, antacid, denture supplies, preparation H, and arthritis medicine just to name a few. Any printed materials should be in big bold print for the sight impaired.

Refreshments:
Serve soft foods such as; sandwiches and pasta, Jell-O, applesauce, baby food in their jars with babypoons.
Drinks: shots of prune juice or in IV form, with IV stand, bag of drink and tubing.
Serve food on a hospital bed and cafeteria trays as platters with over the hill paper goods.

Activities:
Before the event make prank phone calls to the honoree; say you're from the ambulance service, nursing home, funeral home... you heard they may be in need of your services. Leave presents at the birthday person's door; a skeleton, antacid, a cane...
A nurse should tend to the honoree (in a bathrobe) by, pushing the wheelchair, talking loudly, cutting and feeding food to him/her. Maybe you could have someone heal the honoree, so they can participate in the party activities. Three legged race with one leg tied to crutch, wheelchair races, reading the fine print games, and when everyone is ready to keel over - mummy wrap them in toilet paper. Jello eating contest. Play bingo ... very slowly.

Gifts, Favors, Prizes, etc.:
Bifocals, AARP application, Ensure, baby food, Ben Gay, wrinkle cream, fake versions of Viagra and other medicines. Gift certificate for a restaurant, place it inside a menu that clearly states what day is the senior discount day. Write thank you's in the form of newspaper obituaries, and mail them with a magnifying glass. Present the guest of honor with a giant card everyone signed.

Other ideas:
Many of these party ideas can also be used for a Halloween or Day of the Dead party.
