Birthday Information

Calculate the weekday on which you were born:

When were you born?

When is it?
On the day you were born.

Who celebrates it and where?
People everywhere.

What is it?
The day of a person's birth.

Why did it get started?
Started in Europe, to protect birthday person from harm of spirits, friends and family would bring good thoughts and wishes, giving gifts was even better. Kings were the first to be celebrated, in time children's birthdays were celebrated in Germany.

How do people celebrate it?
Many people celebrate birthdays by having cake with candles (one for each year of age) to make a wish on, games for fun and to see how we have grown and birthday pinches (one for each year plus one to grow on) for luck.

What are the symbols?
Birth Flower: January - Carnation or Snowdrop, February - Violet or Primrose, March - Daffodil or Jonquil, April - Sweet Pea or Daisy, May - Lily of the Valley or Hawthorne, June - Rose or Honeysuckle, July - Larkspur or Water Lily, August - Poppy or Gladiolus, September - Aster or Morning Glory, October - Calendula or Cosmos, November - Chrysanthemum, December - Narcissus or Holly.
Birth Stone: January - Garnet, February - Amethyst, March - Aquamarine or Bloodstone, April - Diamond, May - Emerald, June - Pearl or Alexandrite, July - Ruby, August - Peridot or Sardonyx, September - Sapphire, October - Opal or Tourmaline, November - Topaz, December - Turquoise or Zircon.

How can I celebrate it?
Breakfast in bed, King/Queen for the day (family does what birthday person wants), taking pictures, measuring their height or making handprint art, birthday person buys gift for the family, decorating the house/room, a birthday wouldn't be complete without many rounds of Happy Birthday at optimal points during the day and of course you should have a party for the birthday person. See our birthday themes area for party ideas.
